Hey guys! So, I’m about 2 months shy of my 1 year Blogiversary (Yes, that’s a thing!), and thanks to all you amazing peeps, my little ole blog has come a long way. So, I thought I’d take the time to give you an inside look into KnowMom!, tell you about how I got started, where KnowMom! is headed, and give my heartfelt thanks for all your support.
I’ve been asked several times how I came up with the name KnowMom!. I’m going to let you in on a little secrete, my husband is actually the one who came up with the name; and I instantly loved it! So what is the meaning behind it? Well, I like to be “in the know” when it comes to parenting. I research pretty much all things kid related, from car seats to vaccines. (I’m actually a bit obsessed.) It definitely doesn’t mean that I know everything, but it does mean that I like to know (or learn) as much as I can about parenting and motherhood. It’s also a play on words of the popular phrase used by many kids,” NO, Mom!”.
In the beginning, I really struggled with finding my voice. I’ve always loved to write and have using writing as an outlet for as long as I can remember. When I first started blogging, I wanted to appeal to the masses so I wrote and posted what I thought a large-scale of people would want to read. I was afraid to ruffle feathers and miss out on followers. As time went on, I realized that this wasn’t me. So, I made some changes. I changed my logo and color scheme, and rebuilt my website. I started posting what truly spoke to me, what made me laugh, and what I felt was worth reading. Let me tell you, the response I received was incredible!
I’m still slightly shocked that people want to listen to little ole me; and get totally giddy when I hear how I’ve positively impacted the lives of my fellow moms. Seriously you guys, this is why I blog, to make a difference. There is so much judgement when it comes to parenting, and I wish that all parents would realize that we’re on the same team. We all have a common goal, to raise happy, healthy, well-adjusted, compassionate human beings. I really want this to be a place where parents can come together and support one another while working to reach this common goal.
My blog is not at all controversial and I’m hoping to keep it that way. There is such an abundance of negativity in our world, that I really want this to be a positive community. A place where any mom or parent can come to get support, let their guard down, and have some fun no matter where they come from or how they raise their kids. As long as everything you are doing comes from a place of love, and you truly have your kids best interests in mind, then no one should ever judge your parenting choices. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there is no room for perfect parents here. Because what works for one family is going to work for every family!
I really want to see our community continue to grow. I am truly grateful for all of you. Your support and positive feedback, through commenting, liking, and sharing my posts has been amazing! You have helped bring me out of my blogging shell and made me feel comfortable to be myself. I really hope that when engaging in the KnowMom! community, you feel just as comfortable to be yourself. Because you are enough, just as you are.
Every parent knows that this gig isn’t easy. Parenting has it’s up and it’s downs. There are days that we don’t want to end and days we wish we could forget. No matter what type of day you’re having, know that I am cheering you on! I love hearing about your success and failures because we learn from each other. To hear about the tough day you had with your toddler helps me feel not alone as well. So please, keep sharing, keep interacting and keep spreading the word about KnowMom!
As KnowMom! continues to grow, I’m met with new opportunities. I am looking forward to doing a video podcast on Pitch Me Mom in September, although I’m not going to lie, being on camera makes me a bit nervous. Eeek! I’m also going to start hosting guest posts on my blog. It will be great to share some different perspectives on motherhood and raising kids.
You guys are the best, and I feel so lucky to have you as part of the KnowMom! community. I hope that you stick around and continue to laugh your way through parenting with me!
