Fall, the time of year when all the good comfort foods start to make their appearance. It’s finally cool enough to start making warm oven baked meals and desserts. One of our family’s favorite desserts is apple crisp. There is something about the smell of apples, cinnamon, and sugar baking, that truly gives the house that fall feel. This is a great recipe to have the kids help with too. My girls loved making this dessert! There are a ton of apple crisp recipes out there, but this one is sure to feel like home.
What you’ll need:
2 Cups Quick Oats
2 Cups, plus 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
1/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
3 Teaspoons Cinnamon
1 Cup All-Purpose Flour (we used gluten-free four)
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1 Cup Butter, Softened
14 Medium to Large Apples (I used Honeycrisp which makes a syrup. If you don’t want the syrup, use Granny Smith.)
Preheat oven to 350. Core and slice apples. Place in large mixing bowl.
Have your little helpers dump in Granulated Sugar, 1 Tablespoon brown sugar,
and 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon. Mix well.
In separate bowl, mix Brown Sugar, Cinnamon, Oats, and flour.
Cut in the butter until well incorporated.
Pour apples into a 9×13 inch baking dish. Top with oat mixture. Push down evenly. Bake for 45 minutes.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and warm caramel sauce.
