I love baking during the holidays; but with playdates, school functions, and family gatherings, I don’t have a lot of time. So, I like to make easy treats that I know will fly off the off the platter. These Chocolate Chip Christmas Tree Cookies definitely hit the mark. Not only do they look tasty, but people always ask for the recipe. Surprise…it’s box cookie mix, with my secrete ingredient (butterscotch chips), some icing and sprinkles. Growing up my mom always put butterscotch chips in her chocolate chip cookies. It adds an extra dose of goodness and everyone raves about them. So simple right?!
Whether you are looking to add to Santa’s cookie plate, or need to bring a dessert to the family Christmas party, these cookies won’t disappoint! And your kids will have a blast making these with you!
What you need:
2-3 Bags of Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix. (Depends on how thick you want the cookies to be, I used 3.)
2 Bags of Green Icing
1 Bag of Butterscotch Chips
10×13 Baking Sheet
What to do:
Preheat oven as directed on cookie mix. Lightly grease baking sheet. In large bowl, make all bags of cookie mix based on instructions provided.
Once the cookie dough is made, spread evenly onto your baking sheet.
As you can see, I love using old cook/bake wear that has been passed down through my family.
Bake until golden brown and no longer giggles in the middle. Let cool completely.
Cut 3 even rows across. Then cut triangles into each row.
I cut 8 triangles in each row to make 24 large cookies.
Freeze for 10 minutes.
Gently remove triangles from baking sheet and place them on a cooling rack.
(I put wax paper underneath to catch the sprinkles and any icing that may fall.)
Now it’s time to decorate! I let my 4-year-old do the icing (with a little guidance) and sprinkles. She had such a blast! And although the perfectionist in me is going crazy, they still turned out pretty cute! 😉
