2016 KnowMom! Highlights

And just like that, 2016 has come to an end. It seems like the older I get, the faster the years fly by. This year was a whirlwind, we were non stop! The few times we did slow down, were due to sickness, surgery, or a broken bone. This year was definitely an eventful one! We had some great times shared with family and friends, overcame a few challenges, and even caught a couple of curve balls life threw at us. In the end, 2016 made our family stronger, happier and a bit more easygoing. We definitely learned to appreciate the little things and not dwell on the negatives. Life’s too short!

At the end of the year, it’s always fun to reflect on the highlights. KnowMom! definitely had a number of highlights this year and I’m happy to share some of them with you. But first, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, for all of your love and support. Because of you, my little ole blog has grown from sharing stories about my family to so much more. KnowMom! wouldn’t be where it is today without you. I look forward to all the exciting things to come in the new year and hope you continue to join me on my perfectly imperfect journey in 2017!

Now without further adieu, here are the highlights for 2016:

Biggest lesson:

2016 started off with a bang. And by bang, I mean I found out on New Years Day that I had multiple tumors that had to be removed from my lower abdomen. Scary, yes. But it made me realize that I need to take better care of myself. Like most moms, I’m always so quick to take care of my kids and husband when they are sick/in pain; but I tend to put my own health on the back burner. Not anymore! I’m lucky that surgery and a couple of weeks recovery was all that I had to endure. Had I waited much longer to go to the doctor, my story could have been much different. So in 2016 I really worked on listening to my body and making sure to take care of myself, so that I am healthy and able to take care of those I love most.

Biggest goal accomplished:

I was published! When I started out in 2016 one of the goals at the top of my list was to be published and I am so proud to say that I was published 7 times on Her View From Home and The Huffington Post promoted 6 of my posts! As of now, I don’t have any plans to do any more freelance writing in 2017. I want to focus solely on continuing to grow my blog, BUT, you never know!

My Most Popular Post:

This year my most popular post was 8 Ways Parenthood Changes You. It’s a humorous piece that ALL parents can relate to. It was published on Her View From Home (which I’m pretty proud of), and did really well on my Facebook page. This post continues to get views daily and is a great one to share with your fellow parent friends!

My Most Popular Kids Activity:

We love Flubber and this easy to make borax free Flubber recipe has been a hit! This post continues to get several views daily and is also my most pinned Pin on Pinterest. (Say that 3 times fast!) Your kids are going to love stretching, pulling, squishing and experimenting with Flubber!

My Most Popular Recipe:

This Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Pancake recipe was a big hit this year! Almost 2 years ago my family decided to go gluten and dairy free for health reasons. I have spent a lot of time trying to come up with great gluten-free recipes for our favorite foods and this one does not disappoint. These pancakes are fluffy, moist and delicious. I have made them several times for non gluten-free eating guests and they all asked the same thing after tasting them, “I thought you guys were gluten-free?” Just because something is gluten-free, doesn’t mean it has to taste like cardboard!  I look forward to sharing more delicious family friendly gluten-free recipes with you in 2017!

My Most Popular Meme:

I had to throw this in here because it went VIRALl! Yep, this meme I created in the wee hours of the night, that I wasn’t sure was even that funny, took off…and kept going!!

Well that’s a wrap on 2016! Looking forward to what’s in store for 2017!! Wishing you all a very safe and happy New Year. Cheers!
